About Open Cloze

Open cloze — or gap fill — gives you a text with gaps and no options: you must think of the single word that fits each gap. It is the grammar backbone of every exam level, testing articles, prepositions, auxiliaries, pronouns, linkers and verb forms.

What it tests

A short text has eight gaps. For each gap exactly one word completes the sentence grammatically and logically. The missing words are always 'small' grammar words — never content words you could not guess.

How it appears on the exam paper

The task is quick per gap — roughly 20 seconds each — so train yourself to spot the grammatical slot (missing preposition? auxiliary? article?) before choosing the word.
